This two-day class hosted by Susan Johnson will demystify socks and give you all the skills you need to make these fun wardrobe staples. Discussion will include tips for a well-fit sock, needle types, fiber content, types of heels, history of sock knitting, and more resources. You will learn how to:
  • Make a template of their foot
  • Cast-on to double pointed needles
  • Knit a slip stitch stockinette heel flap
  • Turn the heel
  • Pick up and knit stitches
  • Knit the sock gusset
  • Toe decreases
  • Kitchener stitch the toe closed

Skills needed:

Participants should know how to cast-on and comfortably knit and purl. 

Supplies needed:
  • A set of 5 double-pointed needles in US size 1 or 2
    (suggested 6 inches in length)
  • A skein of sock/fingering weight yarn like Malabrigo Sock Yarn (50 grams were used to knit the sample pair).
  • Tapestry needle, measuring tape, scissors
