Knit your very own Ginger Glad Hat with the wonderful, warm, and super-skilled instructor Susan Johnson in this two-day colorwork intensive at Dappled Fern.

The Ginger Glad hat features a modern take on the Norwegian Star motif and comes from Grand Marais knitwear designer, Brienne Moody. A perfect hat to welcome winter here on the North Shore.

This class is a great opportunity for folks who want to venture into the world of color-work knitting, upgrade their skills, continue practicing after taking one of Susan's previous headband classes, or just whip up a couple of cute holiday gifts in the company of fellow knitters.

We will cover different types of colorwork in knitting, choosing colors, color dominance, basics of stranded knitting (two handed knitting), following a chart, duplicate stitch, and how to finishing a project.

Pattern provided. You will receive an electronic copy of the pattern when you sign up and a printed copy of the pattern in class.

Basic skills needed to participate: Casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, binding off.

Required materials:

  • Needles. 16" circulars US size 6,  16" circulars US size 7, and DPNs US size 7.
  • Other tools. Tapestry needle, scissors, marker for beginning of round, plus (optional) plain markers to assist in keeping track of where you are in knitting the design.

Pro tip: To maximize time in class to focus on color work, consider casting on and completing 1.5 inches of the ribbing before class.
