Knit the Arrowhead Headband with instructor Susan Johnson in this day-long intensive at Dappled Fern. A perfect opportunity for folks who want to venture into the world of color work knitting or upgrade their skills. This course will cover different types of colorwork in knitting, choosing colors, how to get 6 DIFFERENT headbands out of three skeins of yarn, color dominance, basics of stranded knitting (two handed knitting), following a chart, duplicate stitch, and how to finishing a project.

Skills needed to participate: Casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, binding off.

Required materials:

  • Yarn. Worsted weight yarn in 3 contrasting colors (About 45 yards of each of the two main colors and 2 yards of the third highlighting color). We can help you pick out Malabrigo Worsted, Malabrigo Rios, Berroco Ultra Alpaca, or Istex Letlopi at Dappled Fern ahead of time or you are welcome to bring your own yarn. Yarn should be balled and ready to cast on when class begins.
  • Needles. Two sets of 16” circular needles, two sizes apart. Size for first set should be determined by a gauge of 5 stitches per inch and will probably be between US size 6-8. The second set should be two sizes smaller for casting on, ribbing, and casting off.
  • Other tools. Tapestry needle, scissors, marker for beginning of round, plus (optional) 7 plain markers to assist in keeping track of where you are in knitting the design.

*Please note that for the safety of our community and staff, we require a properly worn, high quality mask (no cloth masks at this time) and ask that all participants provide proof of up-to-date vaccination in the form of a vaccination card, a photo of the card, or Docket, and a photo ID, to attend all in-person classes. Please check in with this material at the counter when you arrive.

**Class will break for one hour around noon. Please plan to eat lunch off site.
